Heading into the 2014 season, award watch lists are peppered with Auburn players. While pre-season watch lists are broad and the eventual winner may not even be on the list (take Maxwell and Davey O’Brien winner Cam Newton in 2010 for example), being recognized for their efforts in 2013 and considered a viable candidate for prestigious national awards is an accomplishment in its own right.
The Biletnikoff Award given to the nation’s best college receiver.
Butkus Award presented to the best college linebacker in America
Bednarik Award presented tot he defensive player of the year
Maxwell Award presented to the best player in college football
Rimington Trophy presented to the best center in the nation
Davey O’Brien Award presented to the nation’s best college quarterback
John Mackey Award presented to the most outstanding college tight end
Walter Camp Player of the Year presented to the college football player of the year
Outland Trophy presented to the nation’s best interior lineman
Rotary Lombardi Award presented to the best lineman (offense or defense) in the country
Bronco Nagurski Trophy presented to the nation’s best defensive player
And finally, while not a watch list per se, wide receiver Sammie Coates was named college football’s Number One Freak by FOX Sports analyst Bruce Feldman, who annually identifies the ‘freakiest’ athletes in college football, according to Feldman “the guy in the program who can wow his coaches and teammates.”
